OECD PISA 2012
Synopsis
The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) is a triennial, international survey that aims to evaluate education systems worldwide by testing the skills and knowledge of 15-year-old pupils. To date, pupils representing more than 60 countries have participated in the assessment. These are the results are from the assessment in 2012.
PISA assesses the competencies of 15-year-olds in reading, mathematics and science (with a focus on mathematics) in 65 countries, with the aim of evaluating pupils’ abilities in using their knowledge to problem solve. PISA provides comparative tables that use the test results to rank countries education systems, and influence education reform programmes in some countries.
Pupils and head teachers also complete a survey so scores can be linked with contextual data about a pupil’s social background, attitudes towards learning, and the nature of the institutions they learn in.
