Bringing together two investigations into the achievement outcomes of alternative approaches to teaching maths in primary and secondary schools, this reports looks at teaching strategies, ICT and mathematics curricula.
In total, nearly 200 studies were included in the two initial research pieces: these used randomised or well-matched control groups, and lasted between 12 weeks to over a year.
The key findings of the investigations were that the most successful maths programmes encourage pupil interaction with a focus on changing daily teaching practices, and particularly the use of co-operative learning methods, classroom management, and motivation programmes.
