Why we snap: understanding the rage circuit in your brain

Synopsis

According to Dr Fields all people have rage circuits that they cannot control. Fields offers research-based advice on how people can control and prevent the triggers that spark rage and uncontrolled behaviour.

Divided into three parts, this book covers becoming enraged, and gives examples of ordinary people snapping and committing horrific acts due to a sudden loss of control; the flipside of snapping in anger, showing how the same parts of the brain also trigger heroic behaviour; and finally differences between sexes, with the intertwining of sex and violence for both males and females backed up with modern examples.

Though not explicitly related to education, his theories have implications for pupil wellbeing and behavioural support, as well as teachers’ mental state.

CPD Opportunities
