Mind over matter

Synopsis

This report explores the concepts, evidence and application of growth mindsets through qualitative and quantitative research. It explains the key concepts of mindsets and describes why mindsets make up an important part of pupils’ development, from their academic attainment to their social and emotional wellbeing, character capabilities and other life outcomes.

Research included in the report found that mindsets could be as important a predictor of academic achievement as pupils’ socio-economic background, with evidence suggesting that mindset development is not just a way to improve grades, but also a powerful tool for developing healthier and more capable pupils, ready to meet the challenges of 21st century life.

The authors present strong evidence that mindsets can be changed through interventions, and that these interventions can have a particularly profound impact on pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Methodology

A review of qualitative and quantitative research.

CPD Opportunities
