Evaluation of the textbook project, Year 1 (MathsHub)
Synopsis
The overall aim of the textbook project is to trial the use of Singapore style textbooks to support the development of a mastery approach to teaching primary mathematics.
The project commenced in Year One classes in January 2015. Teachers in two or more schools from each of the Maths Hub areas were involved in trialling the use of adapted versions of textbooks currently used in Singapore. They each chose between two textbook series: Inspire Maths (adapted by Oxford University Press); and Maths No Problem (adapted by the publishers Maths No Problem).
This report is based on the individual reports submitted by the participating schools in the summer term of the project (end of year).
It reveals significant indications that the textbook project has had a positive impact on the teaching of mathematics in Year One classes, with 93% of teachers stating the approach had a positive effect on their teaching.
