Three greats for a self-improving school system: pedagogy, professional development and leadership

Synopsis

This report follows on from the DfE white paper, The Importance of Teaching, and looks at framing teaching as an evidence-based profession. It asks what makes great pedagogy, and what role professional development has in creating that pedagogy.

It argues that school-to-school support and peer-to-peer learning amongst teaching professionals are important strategies for raising standards and improving the quality of teachers and school leadership.

Though the report does not offer recommendations itself, it poses a series of questions to school leaders, policy makers, and researchers on how to better integrate research and development into the school system, to encourage it towards self-improvement.

CPD Opportunities

This report will be particularly useful for policy makers looking for background research on evidence-based practice in teaching.
