The class: living and learning in a digital age
Synopsis
The authors provide insights into how young people’s social, digital, and learning networks enable or disempower them. Based on fieldwork at a London comprehensive school, the research examines pupils’ experiences of growing up and learning in a digital world.
Following the school and home lives of 28 year nine pupils, one of the key research questions was whether the way media was used at home and school – especially given access to mobile digital technologies – allowed home and school to be connected in different ways.
The authors found that for all the talk about living in a connected world, pupils did not want teachers or parents to have access to their digital world, while the same was true of the adults.
