Recommendations for schools on how to manage effective implementation. Identifies the foundations to ensure that schools manage change and implementation well. Proposes that implementation is be treated as a process, not an event, and suggests it should be planned and executed in stages i.e.explore, prepare, deliver, sustain as follows:
- Create a leadership environment and school climate that is conducive to good implementation.
- On using the approach for the first time, support staff, monitor progress, solve problems and adapt strategies.
- Define the problem you want to solve and identify appropriate programmes or practices to implement.
- Create a clear implementation plan, judge the readiness of the school to deliver that plan, then prepare staff and resources.
- Plan for sustaining and scaling an intervention from the outset and continuously acknowledge and nurture its use.
