Literature review on teacher education in the 21st century

Synopsis

This literature review was commissioned by the Education Analytical Services Division (EASD) of the Scottish Government and undertaken between April and July 2010. The overall aim was to understand the contribution that teacher education can make to the quality and effectiveness of the educational experience, and wider personal development, of young people.

The literature reviewed suggests that there is scope for a much more integrated approach to teacher education that should incorporate more developed partnerships between stakeholders, including schools and universities.

The authors conclude that not enough research has been done that links teacher education directly to pupil outcomes and pupils’ wider personal development.

Methodology

Review of existing research.
